FreQ Nasty

Born in Fiji, raised in New Zealand and formed musically in the dance music revolution of London in the 90’s, FreQ Nasty now splits his time between Los Angeles and London. He started his career on the seminal UK label Botchit & Scarper in the late nineties, moving to SKINT records in 2003. He has gone on to release a slew of cutting-edge records collaborating and remixing a diverse range of artists including Fatboy Slim, Kelis, KRS One, Roots Manuva, Rodney P, and Reggae legend Junior Delgado. He co-founded the site in 2007 to help musicians and artists support causes they’re passionate about. Recent years have seen the release of ‘Creator’, his crossover hit collaboration with MIA producer Switch and NYC hipster Santogold, and the ground breaking, genre-defying FABRICLIVE 42 mix CD, which was picked as DJ Magazine’s compilation of the month. He is a regular at the Burning Man festival, where he brings his signature Bass-heavy mix of genres: from Breakbeat to DubStep, GlitchHop to DrumStep. The new FreQ Nasty EP, Dred at the Controls, will be released internationally through California’s Muti Records in January. The A Side is a fusion of lush Detroit strings, skittery 2-step beats, wobble bass, and a stupendous glitched-out dub-step breakdown. The B Side is a drum-step roller with the speed of drum and bass and the swagger of dance-hall.

MartyParty – Born and raised in South Africa, has been coined the Iggy Pop of electronic music. MartyParty produces purple music. This is electronic music with a rich melodic layering of beat, bassline and harmonics building up to an intense, full frequency, crescendo. The MartyParty live show is a high energy spectacle not to be missed – he calls it the purple opera. Intense bass, huge beats, emotional melodies and cutting edge sound design all come together in a wild ride – unique to every performance. MartyParty picked up Ableton Live in 2005 and began to learn the art of music production. He soon after realized his first digital album Walkerville to the West Coast, named for the town he grew up in and a tribute to his path to the US. MartyParty got tired of how all electronic music followed the same formula so he set off on a mission to re-invent electronic music and cross-pollinate it with all the other music he loves. Marty started a movement back towards the power of the melody and instrumental composition. Song writing has always been Marty’s passion instead of the typical beat and loop style production. The purple music is a hybrid of electronic music, dubstep and hip hop that together forms a totally new flavor of urban beat with the pretty, hypnotic elements of electronic music and the story telling of traditional song writing. Marty has been playing his live sets to crowds all over the US to rave reviews.

MartyParty is releasing several EP’s in late 2010, namely, Skukuza, Letaba and Satara and a full length purple album to support the Monster’s of Bass Tour in March 2011. |
